① What comes to mind when you hear amaranth?
When you hear amaranth, maybe you think of alegrías.
Of course, there are many other ways to eat it, but what I found at Costco this time was these amaranth chips.
I was looking for a simple snack: not too hard, not spicy, and easy to eat. While walking around, I noticed a product selling well even though it was not on sale.
I also saw many young women picking it up. And amaranth equals superfood. 💡
I spent a while reading the back of the bag and looking at the photo, and I decided it might have the texture and taste I wanted, with the added appeal of using a superfood. So into the cart it went. ( ´∀`)
② Ingredients and nutrition label
Here are the ingredients.
They are not made only with amaranth; they also include potato flakes.
The seasoning uses Himalayan pink salt. The bag also says they are made with 100% olive oil.
It also lists zero sugar, and the package says the chips have about 35% less total fat compared with regular fried potatoes.

③ Why amaranth is considered a superfood
I am not especially an amaranth fan, but I took the opportunity to look it up again.
In general, amaranth is often described as having several useful nutrients.
It is known for minerals and nutrients such as manganese, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron, and fiber. It is also gluten-free and contains essential amino acids such as lysine.
I knew vaguely that it was a superfood, but I did not realize it had this much going for it.
Such a tiny grain, but impressive.
④ Trying them
This introduction got long(^^;; Now let’s open the bag and try them.
Inside, they look like ordinary chips.
When I took one out, I noticed that an unbroken chip is a little large to eat in one bite.

The bag felt heavier than I expected, but each chip is light.
When you eat them, the texture is light but crispy. First you notice the salt, and then the lemon flavor comes in clearly. They are not spicy.
Yes, this was exactly the texture and taste I was looking for.
*Many ways to eat them*
They are good as they are.
But they would also work with guacamole, cheese, jalapeño, yogurt, hummus, cream, or whatever dip you like.
That said, even if they are lower in fat, the calories do not seem dramatically different from regular potato chips.
Even with a superfood ingredient, be careful not to overeat.
