Del Real Salsa Roja y Verde two-pack of 680 g containers

① Helpful when homemade salsa is not practical

In my current temporary place, I do not have a blender or a molcajete, so I cannot make salsa from scratch right now.
I would like to buy the tools, but I am going to move again soon...

I was planning to buy jarred or canned salsa at the supermarket, but then I found this at Costco in Mérida.

It looks very homemade. Nice! This is probably the tasty kind.
I put it in the cart right away ( ^∀^)/〜🎵

② Checking the package

First, let’s look at the packaging.

As you can see, this is imported from the United States.
DEL REAL is a California-based company that makes Mexican-style foods.

I was curious whether the taste would be different.

③ Ingredients and storage

The nutrition information and ingredients are printed on the lid of each container.
Since this is a perishable product, it needs to be kept refrigerated. Be careful with storage.

There is quite a lot in the pack, so for a two-person household like mine, I did wonder whether we could finish it all.
The best-by window was about one month, though of course that is only a guideline.

④ Opening it up

I opened it.
After removing the lid, there is another plastic film underneath, and it is a little hard to peel off 😅

Let’s see what the salsa looks like.
It has small bits of ingredients left in it, which gives it a molcajete-style feel.

*I tried it*

For me, the flavor does not have any strange aftertaste, and it is not too spicy, so it is easy to eat.
I imagine it was made to be approachable for many people.

Some canned or jarred salsas have a stronger, more particular flavor. Compared with those, this one feels easy to use.

Since there is a lot of it, I would not use it only as salsa. I would also use it as a base for chilaquiles or soup.

Salsa is often a home-style flavor, so homemade is probably best, but making it every time can be a lot of work.
Keeping this in the refrigerator seems useful, and I do not think it would go to waste.

I think it would be handy when you need salsa quickly.
