DeOrno Panqués de Elote 14-pack box

① At first I thought they were financiers(^^;;

When I first saw the box, I honestly thought these were some kind of financier-style cake. But after looking more carefully, I realized they were corn cakes ^^;
The package also says “pancakes,” but visually they do not look like the usual round pancake shape.

And then there is the price for 14 pieces
It is the kind of product you might almost walk past, but something about it caught my attention, so into the cart it went.

② Ingredients: no wheat flour, so the gluten-free label makes sense

Looking at the ingredient list, they use corn kernels, sweetened condensed milk, egg, and butter, and there is no wheat flour listed. So yes, the gluten-free claim seems to make sense here.

③ What about calories?

Each cake is listed as 100 g.
The nutrition table says 225.60 kcal per 100 g.

So in practical terms, each piece is about 225.6 kcal.
That feels pretty reasonable for a snack or a breakfast side.

④ I opened the box: yes, there really are 14 pieces

I opened it right away.
There were 3 pieces visible on top, but once I took those out, there were 11 more underneath. So yes, the box really does contain 14 individually wrapped cakes.

I really like that they are individually wrapped. It makes storage easier, and you can just take out what you need.

⑤ Heating instructions

The preparation instructions are printed on the side of the package.

Preparation instructions for Panqués de Elote

According to the box, once removed from the wrapper, you can prepare them like this:
Microwave: 30–40 seconds
Electric oven: microwave for 30 seconds first, then heat at 150°C for about 5 minutes
・Or simply let them thaw at room temperature for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Of course, real heating time may vary depending on your appliances, so it is best to adjust based on your kitchen setup.

⑥ I baked mine… and slightly overdid it(^^;;

I tried baking one after letting it thaw at room temperature, but I definitely left it in a bit too long.

Even so, when I ate it, the buttery aroma was quite strong, and when you pick it up, your fingers get a slightly buttery/sugary feel.
But taste-wise, it was not as sweet as I expected. Instead, it was very moist, with a noticeable corn flavor and natural sweetness from the ingredients.

There are also a few actual corn kernels inside.

⑦ Storage: freezing still seems best

As for storage, I think keeping them frozen is the safest and easiest option.

Storage recommendations for Panqués de Elote

The package recommends:
Frozen: 1 year
Refrigerated: 10 days
Room temperature: 4 days

If you plan to finish them within 10 days, refrigeration seems fine. But personally, I would not recommend leaving them at room temperature.

*How is the value?*

This box contains 14 pieces, so each one comes out to about 16.35 MXN.
Each cake is around 100 g and fits comfortably in the palm of your hand.

Of course, products like this exist in many forms and are sold in many places, so I would not automatically say this is the absolute best deal out there.
Still, it has some clear strengths: bulk quantity, individual wrapping, and easy storage.

It also does not take very long to go from freezer to ready-to-eat. And the size feels just right to me.
As a quick snack or even as a breakfast side, it is a very easy product to keep around.

If it sounds interesting, try hiding a box in your freezer and see how you like it.
