Gentle-scent fabric softener

Kirkland Ultra Fresh 4.4L (front)

Here’s a familiar Costco item: Kirkland Signature liquid fabric softener. It’s a big 4.4L bottle, and the label suggests around 220 loads (though in my experience it may be a bit less depending on how much you pour).

Back label with instructions

How much should you use?

It’s recommended to shake well before use. The instructions mention something like “halfway to mark 1 for normal loads” and “up to mark 1 for large loads,” but “normal” is vague.

For me, a typical wash (about 6–7kg) uses roughly mark 2–3, and it doesn’t feel like too much.

How to use it (easy dispensing)

Because it’s heavy, lifting and pouring can be annoying. If you have space, place it sideways like in the photo.

Loosen the top cap slightly to let air in—otherwise the liquid may not flow well.

Press the red button to dispense. It can come out faster than you expect, so press gently and adjust.

Texture

It’s a thicker, slightly sticky liquid. Depending on your washer’s softener compartment, it might leave a film or flow slowly. If that happens, you can pour into a cup and dilute with a bit of water. The measuring cup can feel sticky, so I rinse it after.

After trying it

The scent may feel strong at first, but after washing it’s subtle and gentle. (Lavender & Vanilla can be polarizing—some people may not like it.)

I notice the scent more when using a dryer than when line-drying. Clothes feel fluffy, and towels seem to gain volume. Since it’s cheaper than some alternatives like Downy, I’d buy it again—especially if it’s discounted in-store.
